Elle Fanning has revealed she once got turned down for a major Hollywood franchise because she didn't have enough Instagram followers.
While The Great actor is a star in her own right now, the 25-year-old disclosed how she was knocked back due to something completely separate to her acting.
“I did try out for…I’m not going to say what it was, but I didn’t get a part once for something big because – it might not have just been this reason, but this was the feedback that I heard – was because I didn’t have enough Instagram followers at the time,” she said on the Happy Sad Confused podcast.

We're assuming this happened when the actor was just starting out, as now she has almost seven million followers on the social media platform.

Fanning also touched upon her thoughts of starring in a big franchise.
For now, she's comfortable with her success on the small screen.
“I would never say no to those things, but I would have to have a meeting and really talk to see what it is,” she said.
“I didn’t have to go through what Nick [Nicholas Hoult] did…they made him try the [Batman] suit on.

"You need a balance. If you want to do your indie work, especially in producing now…[having a big franchise] does make you breathe better.”
She added that joining a franchise 'is scary' and you 'don’t know if they’re going to work sometimes'.
So don't expect the actor to appear in a Marvel or DC flick anytime soon.

Fanning is currently promoting season three of The Great, where she stars as Catherine the Great alongside Hoult, who plays Peter III of Russia.
The series follows the longest-reigning female ruler in Russia's history, her marriage to Emperor Peter III, and her plans to kill him.
During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the Wonderland actor admitted they've upped the ante for the upcoming season while also fleshing out some of the female characters.
"I do think the women this year, like Marial [Phoebe Fox], and Georgina [Charity Wakefield], and Aunt Elizabeth [Belinda Bromilow], you see there's a lot going on behind the scenes, but they are kind of coming together — either to manipulate, or to back Catherine, in a way," she said.

She added: "There's so much craziness. It's more twisted than ever."
