Fans are praising how perfect Jack Black's casting as Bowser in new Super Mario movie is

This is mad.

Jack Black has gifted us much-loved characters such as Dewey Finn in School of Rock and Miles in The Holiday

But it seems that the 53-year-old has a new iconic role up his sleeve in the upcoming Super Mario movie as Bowser - and it’s safe to say that fans are obsessed. Check out Black’s brilliant casting here:

Super Mario Bros. Movie is set for release in 2023, and will also showcase the vocal skills of Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach and Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong.

As per the film’s synopsis: “A plumber named Mario travels through an underground labyrinth with his brother, Luigi, trying to save a captured princess. Feature film adaptation of the popular video game.”

But one thing that’s really surprised fans is just how suited the 'Tribute' hitmaker is to play Mario's archnemesis Bowser - almost scarily so.

Fans quickly took to social media to express their thoughts about his upcoming role, even stating that the entire fate of the movie rests on Black’s character - a big responsibility, clearly.

Fans are obsessed with Jack Black's upcoming character of Bowser.

One person wrote: “Bowser is gonna carry this so hard.”

“I don’t know how they managed to capture Jack Black's smile and put it onto Bowser,” Zobi Draws stated on Twitter, while another asked: “How did they make Bowser look so much like Jack Black?”

“Mad props to Jack Black, he sounds GREAT as Bowser,” stated another fan, as they shared a clip from the trailer, while someone else added: “So we’re all in agreement Jack Black’s Bowser slayed, right?”

And the reception from fans for Black’s new character is a lot more forgiving than that of Pratt’s - where fans are not impressed with his vocal performance.

Twitter user @jetgreguar explained: “Jack Black’s Bowser is one of those roles that really was completely meant to be. Hell, even toad was fun to listen to.

“Mario just showing up like ‘It’s me Chris Pratt let’s a go.’”

Meanwhile, @CircleToonsHD echoed this train of thought, adding: “You can tell Jack Black put a ton of love and heart into his Bowser voice, while Chris Pratt just uh... spoke? Kinda weird but the visuals are absolutely f**king stellar, and I love the general vibe of the whole thing.”

But despite this, fans are still looking forward to the movie. The same Twitter user wrote: “I'm excited for this dang Mario movie.”

I mean, we'd be lying if we said we weren't pretty excited, too.
