Jennifer Lawrence has a career that many actors would envy.
Her films have grossed over $6 billion at the box office and her roles in The Hunger Games and the X-Men franchise have made her a household name.
However, not every film she's taken on has been met with critical acclaim.

Lawrence took on a role in a 2017 movie that was met with middling reviews and mostly just leaving viewers and critics feeling confused.
Mother! centered around Lawrence as she played an unnamed mother whose home was invaded by strangers.
The thriller-horror film was slammed for being overly disturbing and for having poor acting performances from Lawrence and her co-star, Javier Bardem.

The most frequent criticism of the film was that it's message was confused.
Some speculated that Lawrence's character represented Mother Earth, whilst the invaders in her home represented humans exploiting the planet's natural resources.
Regardless of the true meaning, the film was not well received.
Even Lawrence herself has confessed that she doesn't understand the movie - despite sleeping with the director, Darren Aronofsky.

Appearing on an episode of Watch What Happens Live, Lawrence was asked by host Andy Cohen: "On a scale of one to totally confused, how much did you understand your film Mother!?"
Lawrence burst into laughter, whilst assuring her interviewer that she'd give a truthful answer.
Between giggles, she said: "I'm going to be honest. Well, I was sleeping with the director, so I had the CliffNotes. So, five. Or four?"

Cohen was shocked: "Four?! Wow okay, that's not high."
Aronofsky and Lawrence hit it off on the film's set but broke off their relationship two months after the film's release.
Lawrence would later admit that the film's poor reception put a strain on their romance.
Talking to Adam Sandler, Lawrence reflected: "Normally, I promote a movie, ask people to go see it, and then it’s just out of your hands.

"I normally just kind of let it go. Dating the director was different. We’d be on the [press] tour together, I’d come back to the hotel, and the last thing I want to talk about or think about is a movie.
"He comes back from the tour, and that’s all he wants to talk about and I get it.
"It’s his baby. He wrote it. He conceived it. He directed it.
"I was doing double duty trying to be a supportive partner, while also being like, ‘Can I please, for the love of God, not think about mother! for one second?’
"I finally was just like, ‘It’s not healthy. Neither of us are doing it because if I read it, I start getting defensive.’ Especially because it’s my man.
"It’s awesome, what we did — some people hate it and the people who hate it, really hate it.
"But it’s nothing that needs to be defended and if I read a negative review, I just feel defensive."
