Netflix subscribers have discovered the Mean Girls universe is well and truly alive after spotting a throw-away line in the streamer's latest Christmas movie.
Lacey Chabert, who played iconic plastic Gretchen Wieners in the 2004 flick, now stars as Kathy, a widow whose life is transformed after bringing a snowman to life.
You'll have to suspend your disbelief for this one...

Through the power of festive magic, Kathy awakens an attractive snowman, played by Schitt's Creek's Dustin Milligan, turning him into a 'hot' man named Jack.
His innocence offers her a fresh perspective on life. As the pair become closer, Kathy's world becoming softer as she learns to laugh and love again...
I can feel you rolling your eyes from behind the screen, yes, I know.

While this sounds like every other predictable, cheesy, Christmas rom-com - and ok, it is - critics have been quick to heap praise on the movie.
Releasing on November 13, it's already claimed the top spot on Netflix's US movie charts.
Titled Hot Frosty, Rotten Tomatoes critics have rated it a perfect 100 percent. You can watch the trailer below.
The Times of India's Archika Khurana hailed it a 'refreshing twist' on the holiday romantic comedy genre, saying it blends 'cheeky humor with emotional depth to create a genuinely heartwarming film.'

However, not all were impressed, with Boston Globe's Odie Henderson damning verdict compared it to 'a porn movie, if all the sex were removed and the ridiculous threadbare plot were fleshed out instead.' But hey, maybe that's your thing?
What really caught fans' attention though, wasn't shirtless Milligan, but instead Chabert's call-back to Mean Girls, which you can catch at the end of the trailer above.

In the scene, Kathy and Jack are watching Lindsay Lohan's 2022 movie Falling for Christmas, when the star pops up on screen, Kathy remarks: "That looks just like the girl I went to high school with.”
Naturally, Mean Girls fans were delighted by the reference. Lohan, of course, was main character Cady Heron in the movie, an innocent-newcomer-turned-mean-girl who brutally played head plastic Regina George (Rachel McAdams) at her own game.
Taking to the trailer's YouTube comments, one fan wrote: "Not the Mean Girls metaverse, I'm crying" as a second agreed: "I'm glad that Lacey Chabert made a Mean Girls reference at the end of this trailer."

The hype continued on X, formerly Twitter, as one fan admitted: "Okay, the Mean Girls reference SLAPS" and a second chipped in: "the Mean Girls reference in Hot Frosty is to live for and lacey’s character waking up to jingle bell rock playing on the radio???"
Hot Frosty is available to stream now on Netflix. Lohan's own 2024 Christmas movie, Our Little Secret, lands on the streamer on November 25.
