As you may have seen, Metallica – much like Kate Bush – are having a bit of a boost to their fanbase lately thanks to their musics' inclusion in the most recent season of Stranger Things.
Fans of the hit Netflix show will be familiar with metalhead Eddie Munson (played by Joseph Quinn) who appeared in season four, striking up an adorable friendship with Dustin Henderson (Gaten Matarazzo).
During one particularly memorable – and ultimately heartbreaking – scene, Eddie plays Metallica’s 1986 hit 'Master of Puppets' while in the Upside Down.

You can see how it played out here:
Since the scene hit screens, the song has had a resurgence in popularity as younger fans heard Metallica for the first time.
And while that should be a pretty cool thing for fans, some metal-lovers have attempted to ‘gatekeep’ the band, and seemingly aren’t happy with a newer, younger generation enjoying the music.

Earlier this week, Metallica posted a clip showing the band playing 'Master of Puppets' live, prompting one fan to post: "I'm sorry Metallica for all the fake Stranger Things fans love ya.”
But the band had no time for anyone who attempted to discourage new fans discovering their music, quickly responding: "If they like Puppets, chances are they'll find plenty of other songs to get into."
The band then added a new top comment to their clip, posting: "FYI – EVERYONE is welcome in the Metallica Family. Whether you've been a fan for 40 hours or 40 years, we all share a bond through music. All of you started at ground zero at one point in time." Good point well made.

Thanks to its inclusion in the show, 'Master of Puppets' has had a whopping 400 percent increase in streams, according to Billboard.
And the band is absolutely delighted to have been featured in the show, in a post on Instagram, Metallica wrote: “The way The Duffer Brothers have incorporated music into Stranger Things has always been next level, so we were beyond psyched for them to not only include Master of Puppets in the show, but to have such a pivotal scene built around it.
“We were all stoked to see the final result and when we did we were totally blown away... it’s so extremely well done, so much so, that some folks were able to guess the song just by seeing a few seconds of Joseph Quinn’s hands in the trailer!! How crazy cool is that?

“It’s an incredible honour to be such a big part of Eddie’s journey and to once again be keeping company with all of the other amazing artists featured in the show.”
