Fans of Coldplay have rushed to the band's defence after they were slammed as the 'worst' genre of music.
They are the marmite of music, you either love them or you hate them. For fans they're brilliant, but for many people Coldplay are the epitome of 'basic'.
Now, another argument has taken off online about the group in the wake of a viral tweet calling them one of the 'worst' genres of music.

Hating on Coldplay seems to have a whole genre in and of itself, with many people taking to the internet to declare just how much they can't stand the band.
All this is despite the band's many smash hits and hugely popular albums.
It could be same energy which directs people to hate on Taylor Swift and her fans, or if we're going even further back, those ne'er do well Beatles and their fans causing all kinds of mayhem.
The backlash to popular bands seems to have become as much a part of the band's public image as them.

For example, if you don't like Coldplay or Taylor Swift there's no need to announce it to everyone. Just don't listen to their music?
After all, no-one is forcing you to listen to it.
But that didn't stop X user from tweeting the caption 'The worst genre', alongside images of many bands including Coldplay and Imagine Dragons.

One person drew attention to Coldplay's extensive back catalogue.
They wrote: "Putting Coldplay in the same category as the others is disrespectful. Just say y'all only listen to the radio popular songs...they have great albums."

Another drew attention to other parts of Coldplay's list, writing: “Imagine sneaking coldplay in when they have a 10 minute banger that is universally loved."
Others were just annoyed by their favourite group being drawn into this.
One wrote: “Please don’t do Coldplay. They have gems in their catalog.”
Another posted: “Putting Coldplay next to the other 3 is criminal."

Another fan came to the defence of Imagine Dragons, writing: “One of the best shows I went to. They put on a great show that is full of hits. It’s those bands that you think you know 5 songs tops, and you end up singing along to every song.”
