Jack Black confirms Tenacious D isn't over after Kyle Gass' Donald Trump controversy

Jack Black confirms Tenacious D isn't over after Kyle Gass' Donald Trump controversy

Jack Black has spoken out on his friendship with Kyle Gass after his bandmate's ill-judged Donald Trump joke at a Tenacious D concert

Jack Black has spoken out on the future of Tenacious D following bandmate Kyle Gass' controversial comment about Donald Trump.

An assassination attempt took place on Donald Trump's life on July 13 and while the former president of the US managed to escape fairly unscathed, one of the bullets grazed the top right of his ear.

In the wake of the shooting, Tenacious D took to the stage in Sydney, Australia and Jack Black surprised Kyle Gass with a cake for his birthday, Gass making a wish which didn't go down too well.

As he blew out the candles in celebration of his 64th birthday, Gass said: "Don't miss Trump next time."

While some people in the audience laughed at the comment, Gass came under fire from others on social media and fellow band member Black also addressed the birthday wish.

The School of Rock star took to his Instagram on July 16 claiming he 'was blindsided by what was said' and 'would never condone hate speech or encourage political violence in any form' resolving he didn't feel it was 'appropriate to continue the Tenacious D tour' and 'all future creative plans' were now on 'hold'.

Gass apologized for his comment in a post to social media, reflecting on it as 'highly inappropriate, dangerous and a terrible mistake'.

He continued: "I don’t condone violence of any kind, in any form, against anyone. What happened was a tragedy, and I’m incredibly sorry for my severe lack of judgment. I profoundly apologize to those I’ve let down and truly regret any pain I’ve caused."

However, he was still dropped by Tenacious D's talent agent and Black has since opened up about whether the band will be getting back together anytime soon.

In an interview with Variety, Black explained he and Gass 'need to take a break' from Tenacious D.

However, he noted: "Everybody needs a break sometime. And we’ll be back."

The actor added the pair are still 'friends' - 'that hasn't changed' - but 'these things take time sometimes,' resolving Tenacious D will be 'back when it feels right'.

Black also revealed he was wearing Tenacious D's 'Pick of Destiny,' adding he loves the band and it's 'probably' his 'favorite job' - so fans can probably breathe a sigh of relief.

And it's not taken long for people to flood to Twitter to weigh in.

One user said: "Can Tenacious D get back together now??"

"Can't wait," another added.

And a third resolved: "It worked for Ross and Rachel."
