Many folks online have been left confused after spotting 'Jeff' on the list of nuclear superpowers.

Weapons of a nuclear nature are never far away from the headlines, are they? And with everything going on in the world right now, including Russia's ongoing invasion of Ukraine, it remains a constant worry.

Studies have found that around 100 or so warheads could plunge the world into nuclear winter, claiming countless lives in the process.

Data released last year found we have an approximated 12,500 know nuclear warheads.

At the moment, there are nine countries that have nuclear weapons. These are: Russia, the US, China, the UK, France, Pakistan, Israel, North Korea, and India.

According to a graph by CNN based on data from the Federation of American Scientists, the tenth biggest possessor of nuclear weapons is Jeff.

Yep, Jeff.

While Jeff has less than ten nuclear warheads at its disposal, that hasn't stopped the people from growing curious about the name.

Among the many social media users quoting Channing Tatum's infamous line from 21 Jump Street, were a few who thought it was referring to Amazon's Jeff Bezos, which is incorrect.

But the vast majority were left asking the same question: Who is Jeff, and why does 'he' have nuclear warheads?

One person wrote: "Who the f*** is Jeff?"

Someone else added: "I don't know, but when Jeff talks, everyone listens..."

Another joked: "Someone you don't want to p*** off."

While a third commented: "Find jeff please before it's too late."

Many have presumed the graph is informally talking about some unknown world leader, but that theory is completely false.

Jeff isn't the name of an individual, but instead an acronym of an organization within the world of nuclear energy.

Joint Evaluated Fission and Fusion Project, or JEFF for short, is a specialist group that produces nuclear data as a part of the OECD Nuclear Energy Agency.

The group looks into nuclear fission and nuclear fusion and are made up of scientists from several different countries throughout the world.

Furthermore, its 'possession' of actual nuclear weapons was also perhaps an error made exclusively by this graph - as no piece of data released by the Federation of American Scientists in recent years has included Jeff whatsoever.

So thankfully, there's now need to worry about a bloke named Jeff that could cause worldwide destruction.
