Family of nurse who was found dead after failing to show up for work speak out following neighbor’s arrest

Family of nurse who was found dead after failing to show up for work speak out following neighbor’s arrest

Oregon nurse Melissa Jubane, aged 32, was found dead on Friday (September 6)

Oregon nurse Melissa Jubane was found dead after not showing up to work - and she had recently just got married.

On Wednesday (4 September), Melissa Jubane was reported missing after she failed to show up for her shift at St Vincent Hospital in southwest Portland, Oregon.

The 32-year-old's remains were later discovered after three days of searching and police have since revealed they've arrested Melissa's neighbor, 27-year-old Bryce Johnathan Schubert.

In a post to Facebook, Beaverton Police Department said coworkers, friends and family were 'concern[ed]' when Melissa didn't report for her morning shift and requested a welfare check at 'approximately 10:18 AM'.

Upon reaching Melissa's house, police were 'met by staff from the apartment complex and conducted a search of Melissa's apartment', but she was 'not present'.

"Her absence without communication was deemed unusual and alarming," the department added.

Melissa was unable to be contacted via phone and searches of her bank and credit card records didn't show up any information either. So by 3:12 PM on September 4, Melissa was registered as a missing person.

Police revealed after 'an extensive investigation' they believed one of her neighbors - Schubert - 'was involved in her disappearance'.

Schubert was arrested on the evening of September 5 and 'charged with [her] murder' after the nurse's remains were recovered.

Melissa's family have since spoken out on social media.

Melissa's mom, Valentin Jubane, wrote in a post to Facebook: "I’m in so much pain right now for you my daughter Melissa Jubane. As promised by the Beaverton Police Authorities to us, your justice will be done soon. I have trust in our God The Almighty and His only son our Lord God Jesus Christ..You are loved by so many good people around the world."

A cousin of Melissa's, Onilobes Allan, also posted: "My cousin Melissa Jubane is a down to earth, funny, God fearing, very helpful and successful in a young age. These are the kind of people our government need to protect so we can have a chance to live in peace and have happiness in the world but unfortunately got taken advantage and was killed by someone that is very evil. I’m asking the government to make laws that protect good citizens. My family has been serving United States military since World War II until now and we don’t deserve this. To whom it may concern, we need JUSTICE FOR MELISSA and for all the good people in this country USA."

Beaverton Police Department resolved: "This is an active investigation. While we acknowledge the significant community interest and concern, we must withhold further details to preserve the integrity of the investigation. Tips related to this case are still welcome. Please call 503.526.2280 to provide information.

"We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the community members who have assisted with the search for Melissa. Our deepest condolences go out to Melissa’s family, friends and coworkers."
