A YouTuber has broken down exactly how much money he’s spent on his six-year-old Tesla, including the shocking amount he’s saved on gas.
Last month, tech guru and automobile fanatic Andy Slye posted a video to YouTube revealing exactly how cost-efficient owning a Tesla Model 3 is.
The IT specialist said he’d bought the Ultra Red version of the electric car for $54,000 in 2019.

“Exactly six years ago I did something crazy and spent more money than I ever thought I would on a car,” he began.
Slye said he’d successfully clocked up 144,225 miles on the vehicle, which according to the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) is just slightly higher than the average US citizen is expected to drive over a decade.
Before getting into how much money on gas he’d saved by charging the Tesla in his garage for six years, Slye totted up how much he’d spent on ‘optional expenses’

A whopping $1,800 was dropped on Paint Protection Film (PFF) to wrap the entire front of his motor, while $200 was spent getting all four windows tinted.
Another $200 was used to buy accessories such as phone mounts and floor mats, while $500 was spent on a radar detector.
“I got one speeding ticket every year for the first three years of ownership so I ended up getting this radar detector and it’s been worth it because ever since I’ve gotten it I haven’t been pulled over,” he reasoned.
Slye claims over the six years he’s owned the EV, he’s spent around $3,200 on optional expenses, thus bringing the total amount spent on the car to $57,200.

The social media star explained that over the years the Tesla had undergone various out-of-warranty repairs, costing $2,040.
He also claimed he’d forked out $2,730 for two brand-new sets of tyres.
“Now let’s talk about one of the best things about owning a Tesla: the charging costs,” he began.

“I live in a State where electricity is super cheap. I’m literally just charging in my garage overnight when electricity is the cheapest.”
In the 10-minute YouTube video, Slye revealed that overnight Tesla charging costs him roughly $0.08/kilowatt-hour.
He also stated that his car had consumed a Total Energy of 36,482 kWH to power it over 144,000 miles.

After doing some quick math, it was revealed that charging his Model 3 over the last six years at home has cost the content creator $2,772.
A further $583 has been spent on Superchargers while out and about and $900 had been used to purchase a NEMA 14-50 outlet to make charging in his garage a success.
“So, that brings my total charging costs to about $4,255,” he stated.
He compared it to a gas car with similar specifications and claimed he’d roughly saved around $20,000 by driving his EV.
According to research conducted by GoBankingRates the average annual cost of gas is $3,306.53 - meaning Slye has made a whopping saving with his Tesla.
Overall, his total ownership costs have amounted to $75,175 so far.
Given the car’s mileage is equivalent to spending a decade in the driving seat, it’s looking like Slye pays an average of $7,517 per year.
“I’m going to drive it until the wheels fall off,” he concluded.
But are the tech expert's jaw-dropping savings enough to convince you to swap your gas motor for a Tesla EV? You tell us.
