Miley Cyrus has confirmed she's safe after the plane she was travelling in was struck by lightning mid-flight.
The singer was flying to Asunción, Paraguay along with her family, crew and band to perform at the latest stop of her South American tour when the plane they were on got caught up in a storm and was forced to make an emergency landing.
In a video shared to Instagram, Cyrus revealed the shocking moment the plane was hit by a bolt of lightning, with passengers heard gasping in shock as the cabin shook amid a series of bright flashes and loud bangs.

"Our plane was caught in a major unexpected storm and struck by lighting. My crew, band, friends and family who were all traveling with me are safe after an emergency landing," she wrote.
She later shared an image of what appeared to be damage to the aircraft following the lightning strike, in which torn metal and scorch marks could be clearly seen on the plane's body.
"We were unfortunately unable to fly into Paraguay," she said.
Cyrus had been due to headline the second day of the Asunciónico Festival, which is being held for the first time in three years following the Covid-19 pandemic.

The festival's organisers have since confirmed that the 'Midnight Sky' singer will no longer be appearing following the incident.
Cyrus' flight was en route from Bogotá, Colombia, where she had recently performed on the latest stop of her Attention tour.
In recent weeks the singer has also appeared at Lollapalooza festivals in Chile and Argentina, giving fans the hits from her 2020 album Plastic Hearts while dressed in a series of skintight catsuits.
Following the cancellation of her appearance in Paraguay, Cyrus is expected to travel to Sao Paulo for Lollapalooza Brazil to wrap up her South American tour, before returning in time for the Grammys, which are set to be held in just under a fortnight's time.

Cyrus has scored one nomination for her involvement in Lil Nas X's debut album Montero, which is one of the favourites in the Album of the Year category.
Her own album was snubbed in the nominations, leading the singer to share a link to an article containing a list of famous artists never to have won a Grammy, with the caption 'in good company.'
