Over a year on after the first trailer for GTA 6 dropped, fans have finally received an update on the progress of the highly anticipated game.
GTA VI's debut trailer revealed a Vice City (AKA Miami) setting, a new female lead character in the form of Lucia, and perhaps some of the best graphics we've ever seen in a video game, period.
"Grand Theft Auto VI heads to the state of Leonida, home to the neon-soaked streets of Vice City and beyond in the biggest, most immersive evolution of the Grand Theft Auto series yet." Rockstar said in the initial announcement.
Questions over GTA 6's initial 2025 release date
A 2025 release date was announced, though many have questioned in recent months whether we'll actually be playing GTA VI this year.

Former Rockstar Games technical director Obbe Vermeij took to Twitter in September last year to predict when the game may release.
"The decision to delay GTA IV was made 4 months or so before the original release date," Vermeij wrote. "Any further and it's hard to make the call. [Rockstar] is probably not in a position to determine whether they will hit 2025 until May-ish [of next year]."
He added: "Also: GTA VI will sell for 10+ years and there is no competition to worry about. They are not going to release the game until they're 100% happy with it. No matter what it said in the trailer."
The former developer concluded: "I have no inside info. Didn't talk to anyone."

On top of that, many fans became worried GTA 6 would see a delay after Donald Trump won the US presidential election.

A major update on GTA 6's release
But the speculation can end now, as Take-Two - Rockstar Games' parent company - has announced GTA 6 is still on track for a Fall 2025 release date.

The announcement was made during an earnings call on Thursday (February 6), where an update on the development of the Grand Theft Auto game was also announced.
"Looking ahead, this calendar year is shaping up to be one of the strongest ever for Take-Two, as we plan to launch...Grand Theft Auto VI in the Fall," Take-Two said in an investor report.
Speaking to IGN, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick admitted 'there's always a risk of slippage', but the company 'feels really good' about releasing GTA 6 later this year.
He added to the outlet: "Look, I think the game is eagerly anticipated both internally and externally. We know that Rockstar seeks perfection. I never claim success before it occurs.

"I'm fond of saying arrogance is the enemy of continued success, so we're all running scared and looking over our shoulders and we know that the competition is not asleep. Our whole organization is super excited."

False reports of GTA 6's release
Last week, retailer XUruguay listed a September 17, 2025, release date for GTA 6 - which got fans across the world extremely excited indeed.

A supposed customer support information conversation shared online showed the claim from PlayStation, and with GTA 5 dropping on the same day back in 2013, everything just seemed to make sense - but perhaps, a little too much so.
As per GameRant, the retailer revealed that the release date was, in fact, just a placeholder and issued an apology to fans who'd believed it was the actual release date.
