A man accused of attempting to murder his wife by hitting her over the head with a rock after she complained they were too close to the edge of a cliff allegedly admitted to the crime during a call with his son, according to court documents.

Dr Gerhardt Konig has been arrested and charged with second-degree attempted murder by the Honolulu Police Department, following claims that he tried to push her off Nuʻuanu Pali Lookout in O'ahu, Hawaii, at around 10am on March 24.

It is claimed that after striking his wife-of-six-years Arielle Konig with a rock to the back of the head, and bounced her head off the floor before attempting to inject her with substances from two syringes, before two hikers intervened.

Shortly after the alleged incident, the anaesthesiologist allegedly contacted his son and said 10 chilling words to him, according to a restraining order filed by Arielle on Thursday (March 27).

While on FaceTime to his adult son, who was from a past relationship, he is claimed to have said: "I just tried to kill Ari but she got away."

The court filing alleged that he was 'covered in blood' during the conversation and told his son he planned to die by suicide.

The alleged ordeal occurred after the 46-year-old asked his wife to take a picture with him immediately next to the cliff edge, and when she refused that was when the Gerhardt lost it.

In December, Arielle claims that Gerhardt accused her of cheating on him, citing in the court filing that he was 'extremely jealous' and had attempted to 'control and monitor' her communications.

Arielle also alleges in the petition that her husband grabbed her arms and forced her toward the cliff while screaming: "Get back over there, I'm so f**king sick of you!"

It was then that she shouted for help and the fellow hikers intervened, with Arielle telling them that her husband was 'trying to kill [her]'.

Later the same day, Gerhadt was taken into custody. His bail has been set at $5 million.
